Showing Cecur Book your own calendar
The calendar subscription, connecting Google Calendar, and what each one does and does not do.
Last updated
Settings, then Scheduling, then Calendars is where you decide how much of your own diary Cecur Book can see. It is optional, and the page is honest about what each choice costs you.
The three ways to work
Nothing connected. Meetings booked through Cecur Book block each other, and your confirmation email carries links to put each one in your own calendar. Meetings already in your personal calendar do not block anything, so a client can book you at a time you are busy with something Cecur Book was never shown.
A calendar subscription. Your bookings appear automatically in the calendar app you already use, with no account to connect. It sends only: your other meetings still do not block anything.
Google Calendar. Two way. Meetings already in your calendar block times, Google sends the invitation, and every booking is written to the calendar you nominate.
The page marks which one you are on, and shows the warning Nothing is connected, so you can be double-booked wherever the answer is that nothing of yours is being checked.
The safe way to work without a connection
Keep your working hours narrower than your actual day, so there is room for whatever Cecur Book cannot see. It is not a workaround for a fault: nothing can avoid a meeting it has never been shown. Connecting Google is what removes the gap. See Setting the hours people can book.
Setting up a calendar subscription
In the Calendar subscription panel, press Turn on calendar subscription. You get two addresses:
- Apple Calendar, Outlook and most phones. Opening this address subscribes the calendar app on the device you open it from. On a phone, send it to yourself and tap it there.
- Google Calendar. In Google Calendar choose Other calendars, then From URL, and paste this one. Google does not accept the address above.
The panel says when a calendar app last read it. It can take a few hours after you subscribe for that to appear.
Treat the address like a password. Anyone holding it can see who you are meeting and when, for as long as it works. If you have shared it, or lost a device it was set up on, press Issue a new address: the old one stops working immediately and every device needs subscribing again with the new one. Turn off stops it entirely.
Connecting Google Calendar
Press Connect Google Calendar and sign in to Google once. We ask for permission to read your calendars and to manage events. We never read the contents of meetings we did not create, and you can disconnect at any time.
Afterwards, two choices on the same panel:
- Which calendars make you busy. Tick every calendar that should block your time. This is the half that stops double bookings, so a connection with nothing ticked leaves you exactly where you started, and the page says so in a warning until you tick one.
- Where bookings are written. The calendar new bookings are added to, or Do not write bookings to Google.
If the connection stops working
Google will stop accepting a connection if access was withdrawn in your Google account or an administrator removed the app. When that happens your booking page shows no free time rather than the wrong free time: because your diary cannot be read, we do not claim you are available, so nobody can book over something you already have.
You are emailed at the moment it happens, the Calendars page leads with it, and Bookings shows a notice with Reconnect calendar. Meetings already booked are unaffected. Press Reconnect Google Calendar and times are offered again.
Disconnecting
Disconnect Google Calendar asks you to confirm. Your existing meetings stop blocking times, so clients can book you when you are busy. Bookings already made are unaffected, and the meetings already written to your Google Calendar stay exactly where they are.
What a connection does not do
It does not move your working hours, choose your booking window, or decide who can see your diary. Those are on Availability, on each booking link, and on the diary sharing panel respectively.
