Drawing, typing or reusing a signature

The three ways to sign, and how to save one for next time.

Last updated

Tap any field marked SIGN and a panel opens headed Add Your Signature. It offers three tabs: Draw, Type and, once you have signed once already, Saved. Whichever you choose, the panel closes with Apply Signature, and the signature drops into the field on the page.

Draw

The default for a first signature. Sign inside the box with a mouse, a trackpad, a finger or a stylus. Clear wipes it so you can start again, and the caption underneath confirms what is being asked for. Drawing on a phone with a finger usually produces a better result than a mouse.

Drawing needs something to point with. If you are working from a keyboard alone, use Type instead.

Type

Type your full name into the box and CecurSign renders it in a signature style. Four styles are offered under Select a style:, and each button previews your own name rather than a sample, so you can see what will go on the document. Preview underneath shows the version that will be applied.

Saved

The Saved tab appears as soon as you have signed once in the same envelope, and it becomes the tab that opens by default. Its caption says it plainly: reuse the signature you used earlier in this envelope. That is what makes a ten page pack quick, because you draw once and then apply the same mark to every remaining field.

Initials

Fields marked INITIAL work the same way, from a panel headed Add Your Initials. Draw them, type them, or reuse the initials you entered earlier in the envelope, then press Apply Initials.

Changing your mind

Nothing is committed until you finish. Tap a field you have already filled and the panel reopens so you can replace what is there. The tooltip on a completed field says so as well. Only when you press Finish, tick the consent box and press Agree & Sign does the signing become part of the record.

If you have a CecurSign account

People signing on behalf of your own company have a second route. Settings, then My signatures, keeps signatures on your account and lets you mark one as your default. When an envelope reaches you and every field of yours can be filled from it, the envelope page offers Quick Sign, which applies that signature to all of them at once. Your saved signature is also what a self signing role in a template uses.

A few practical notes

  • A signature drawn on a phone in landscape is usually steadier than one drawn in portrait.
  • The style you pick for a typed signature is a matter of appearance only. What is recorded is the image, its type, the time, and the rest of the evidence described in The audit trail.
  • If the field will not accept anything, check that you are the person it is assigned to. Fields belonging to another signer are not shown to you at all.
